The Urban Watersheds Research Institute is proud to present a workshop and training seminar on:

STORMWATER BMP DESIGN

When:    October 23-24, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(Please arrive between 8:00 and 8:15 on the first day to register and have your software installed)

CEU’s:    You will be eligible to receive 1.6 CEU’s or 16 PDH’s for this course

What You Will Learn:

This workshop and training seminar will focus on the design of structural best management practice (BMP) facilities.  It will address the basis and background for why stormwater quality and quantity management is important for the protection of the receiving water bodies.

Emphasis will be on sizing and the design details of various types of structural BMPs, including:

1.                   Porous pavement

2.                   Porous pavement detention

3.                   Porous landscape detention (i.e., rain gardens)

4.                   Filter basins

5.                   Extended detention basins

6.                   Retention ponds

7.                   Minimizing effective impervious areas

8.                   Swales

9.                   Other BMPs

Course Coverage:

Volume 3 of the Urban Stormwater Criteria Manual published by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District will be used as the primary reference; however, some of the other design techniques and facilities will also be examined.  The workshop will provide hands-on experience in working problems.  Bring your own laptop (Windows 98 SE and Excel 97 or newer editions required) and take back the software, spreadsheets and your own work back to your office at the end of the class.

Software (Installed on Your Personal Laptop) and Laptop Computers Provided:

A limited number of laptop computers will be available in the classroom. You are encouraged to bring your own Laptop if it is loaded with Excel 97, or higher, and Windows 98 SE, or higher operating system.  Needed software package(s) will be provided for installation.  Please indicate on the registration form if you will bring a laptop, or will need one provided.
